Proving your identity and proof of address

Acceptable documents – Money Laundering Regulations 2017

As a regulated law Firm, Bowling & Co is subject to the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. This means that we must obtain and hold identification and proof of address for all clients. Additionally, we are also required to establish whether there are any beneficial owners on whose behalf the transaction or activity is taking place. Where appropriate, the source or destination of funds may also be requested.

Important: Without this information, Bowling & Co will be unable to proceed with any work on your behalf.

Below is a list of acceptable identity documents to use when completing our onboarding process via our current digital AML Partner, www.Legl.com, or where we are meeting you in person to examine those documents. Bowling & Co requires sight of all original or certified documents. Subject to individual circumstances, further documentation may be requested.

For Individuals you will need:

  1. One document from List A (Identity)
  2. One document from List B (Proof of address)

List A – Identity document

  • Current signed passport
  • Valid UK driving licence
  • EEA member state identity card

List B – Proof of address

  • UK/EU/EEA Driving Licence (if not used as ID)
  • Bank / Building Society / Credit Union Statement (dated within 3 months)
  • Credit Card Statement (dated within 3 months)
  • Mortgage statement (dated within 12 months)
  • Utility Bill (dated within 6 months)
  • Telephone Bill (dated within 6 months)
  • Council Tax statement (dated within 12 months)
  • Tenancy Agreement (dated within 12 months)
  • Benefits Entitlement Letter
  • HMRC Tax Notification
  • Home or Motor Insurance Certificate
  • UK solicitor’s letter confirming house purchase or land registration

Notes:

  • Documents must include the account number or address where applicable
  • General correspondence is not accepted
  • Documents must be valid and not expired

We cannot accept the following as proof of ID:

  • Provisional driving licence
  • Mobile phone bills
  • Credit card statements
