Interview with David Downham our Practice Director
Q: How long have you worked at Bowling & Co?
A: 18 years, having joined on 1st June 2001..
Q: What attracted you to the profession?
A: Having previously worked in the Civil Service and Accountancy worlds, I wanted a change of direction, and whilst studying to be a Chartered Secretary, I decided that the legal profession seemed a natural fit with my chartered studies, so I moved into this area.
Q: Who (or what) inspired you?
A: My late father, Ernie Downham; in his early career he was an Electrical Engineer Officer in the Merchant Navy and thereafter on dry land he worked as an electrician in various factories. His best advice to me was, “Never work in a factory son; it’s too dangerous.” It was good advice, so I chose the less dangerous environment of working in offices!
Q: How would others describe you in three words?
A: Loyal, determined and diplomatic.
Q: What do you find interesting about the work you do?
A: My role as Practice Director is quite varied. I deliver services to the firm in many ways including training, client care, risk and compliance management. Each day is different, bringing new challenges and situations. You have to be adaptable and flexible in the legal arena.
