Interview with Laura Gill of our Residential department

Interview with Laura Gill of our Residential Property department

Q: How long have you worked at Bowling & Co?
A: I joined the firm approximately 18 months ago and work in the Residential team.

Q: What is the typical time frame for a property transaction to take, from start to finish?
A: That’s a tough question! It really depends on the type of property transaction. The average would be, say 6 to 8 weeks for a freehold property and around 8 to 12 weeks for a leasehold property. However, those average timescales are tied in to a number of factors which can dramatically change the dynamics. For instance, if your property “chain” is long, then delays can set in.

Q: What do you find most satisfying about the residential conveyancing work you do?
A: I would say the most satisfying aspect of my role is helping my clients through the complex maze of buying or selling a property. A house purchase is often the biggest single investment anyone will make and that can also make it stressful. So, for me, being a good listener is a key element of understanding client needs and guiding them. Just being here for them, really.

Q: Research shows that young adults over the age of 25 are still living at home with their parents. What property buying schemes (e.g. government help), are available to help people in this situation to get on the property ladder?
A: Getting on the property market, and moving out from mum and dad’s house is not easy, and unless you have some very generous parents, or grandparents, who can gift you the money for a deposit, there are at least a couple of other schemes you may wish to try, as below:

  1. Help to Buy
  2. Help to Buy ISA

Q:  How can I get in touch to ask about using Bowling & Co for legal services to buy or sell a property?
A:   Anyone thinking of buying or selling a property can contact me for a no obligation estimate of fees and associated costs. I can be contacted via email at: laura.gill@bowlinglaw.co.uk or telephone me on 020 8221 8052; alternatively you can write to me: Laura Gill, Bowling & Co, Solicitors, 62 Broadway, Stratford, London, E15 1NG.
